Little Love Notes {thursday things}

It was still dark out when the prompting came, the only glow emanating from the light of our fireplace. Pulling the blanket tightly around me, I listened for the Divine messages that so often come in the early morning hours when all the house is still asleep.

My mind drifted back to my little girl days when my mother and I would leave notes to each other in a red tin mailbox. I remember the hand-drawn stamps up in the top right corner and the picture symbols she drew so I could feel like I was actually reading. As I grew older, I remember the colorful post-it notes she would leave in my lunchbox or the letters I would find mysteriously slipped in my new backpack on the first day of school. Sometimes I’d find notes on my pillow after a long day, or in a book, or on the mirror. These notes meant the world to me and I kept them in my peach-lidded special box (that had once been a baby wipes container.)

Sitting there in the quiet stillness, I smiled with longing for those days gone by.

And then the Spirit spoke clear: “It’s your turn now.”

365 days. 365 little love notes.

And I will write each one.

To honor my mother. To carry on the tradition. To show my sweet children just how much they mean to me.

And so I order eight little rings of notes – all cut in circles – and I find that it’s rather symbolic.

Because love is a circle. It goes round and round and never ends.

I received those sweet mother-penned notes long ago and now the love has come full circle so that I can be on the giving end.

I love that we have families where we can love wholeheartedly. I love that we can feel so close to our Heavenly Father through the love of our parents and the love for our children.

And most of all, I love that our families can be together forever in a never-ending circle of love.

And so this morning, I pen four little notes and tuck them up in hidden places to be found by my curious children.

Perhaps this could be the start of something so simple and yet something so grand…
