Princesses don’t need all this Stuff.

When my little girl walked out of her room all donned with scarfs, sunglasses, hats, and bedecked with every piece of jewelry she owns, my mouth dropped open slightly.

Even more surprising was the little pout on her lips.

Standing next to her and grinning from ear to ear was her older brother who proudly admitted that he had been responsible for her accessories.

Before I could say a word, my daughter folded her arms and emphatically stated:

“Princess don’t need all this stuff!”

My little girl is as girly as they come. She insists on wearing a dress or skirt everyday, loves sparkly necklaces, and longs for the day when she can wear real earrings. So why the glum reaction?

The answer came to me as I helped her remove some of the glitz. When all of these baubles and trinkets came colliding upon her, it was simply too much. All the glamor was hiding her natural glow. The fancy shimmer was covering her inner shine.

My father used to tell us girls that “Less is More.” These words still ring true in my heart today.

A true princess doesn’t need all that extra bling to be beautiful. All she needs is her inner light. If she can learn to polish her inward spiritual radiance, her outward clothing and accessories will only serve to highlight and accentuate the true beauty that is already there.

It’s true–princesses don’t need all this stuff. They only need to draw close to Him to discover and shine the beauty they already possess.
